Legislative Assembly Committee into FWC rate cut.

Just reading about this committee taking submissions from affected workers. Thought it could be worth lodging a submission from rideshare drivers about exploitation by uber.
Penalty Rates Inquiry Commences

Starting today, members of the Legislative Assembly will be looking into the impacts of penalty rate cuts by the Fair Work Commission supported by the Turnbull Government and Matthew Guy’s Opposition.

The Penalty Rates and Fair Pay Select Committee will look into the social and economic cost of the Fair Work Commissions to changes to penalty rates.

The changes will begin to impact the wages of retail, hospitality, pharmacy and fast food workers from the middle of the year.

The select committee will be looking into the detrimental effects such changes will have on:

• Victoria’s lowest paid, award reliant workers
• Women
• Young workers
• Workers in regional Victoria
• Single parents
• The detrimental effects on the Victorian economy
• Other industries that are now potentially open to the same wage cuts.

It comes as 78 leading Australian economists signed an open letter to the Fair Work Commission earlier this month, commenting that cutting award wages will likely hurt the national economy.

Unlike the opposition the Andrews Labor Government has firmly opposed the cuts to penalty rates and is looking to the Committee for ideas of what can be done in Victoria to assist those impacted by the cuts.

Shouldn't it first be with Fairworks?

And before then, we need some type of government regulation to give us reason to go to Fairworks.

Basically, either VIC government is going to remember that Australia is a first world country with employment standards and human rights, or it is going to legalise slavery and own up to it. Then it can go to Fairworks, and if they don't find a case, to the Legislative Assembly. ETA 100 years or so.

 

It cannot be a negative to inform the LA of what is already going on. They only have uber management in their ear. Coming from the coalface can't hurt the cause surely.

I was under impression Uber management was so hard to get (even for a comment when chased directly), they were hardly in anyone's ear.

 

Ho they are well and truly into politicians and Government ears belive you and me. There's a sweatshop going on in Victoria (and Brisbane) under everyone's radar for almost a year now and not even one Government word about it...

Uber are just playing shy with the press right now hoping for the shit storm to go away.
