Brussels (dpa) – Operations of the Uber car-sharing service can be regulated under national transportation laws in the European Union, which may require drivers to obtain licences and authorizations, according to an EU court opinion handed down Thursday.
An advisor at the Court of Justice of the European Union said that the mobile ride-hailing platform cannot claim the freedoms provided under EU law for digital services. Instead, its operations fall within the field of transportation, which is governed by national laws in the bloc.
